Nursing

Our promise and our commitment to pet owners is to provide the highest quality, attentive, and constant care to every patient we treat. Our large team of Registered Veterinary Nurses, Patient Care Assistants and Theatre and Neurology Technicians are dedicated to caring for our patients, day and night.

Ensuring the best possible care for pets

We know that reassurance plays a large part in alleviating any stress you may experience associated with your pet’s condition. It is equally important that your pet is treated in as welcoming an environment as possible. Our Nursing team ensure that every animal within our care has a comfortable and seamless recovery, helping each patient to adapt to the effects of their procedure, and managing and monitoring their treatments.

A dedicated team, with experienced discipline-specific nurses

Working alongside our multi-disciplinary team of consultants, residents and interns, our Nursing team includes nurses who focus on specific areas of veterinary nursing. These areas include anaesthesia, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, oncology, and theatre and surgical nursing.

We also have a team of multi-disciplinary nurses who work across all our services, enabling us to be flexible and provide care when and where it is needed. Our dedicated Night Nurses and Night Patient Care Assistants provide continuity of care round the clock.

We are also a training hospital and have student nurses and post-registration programme nurses working alongside our team.

Celebrating Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month

In Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month in May which focuses on empowerment this year, our nursing team discussed how they feel empowered in their day-to-day roles at Southfields.

"Rufus, my ten-year-old Newfoundland, has often had to spend days and even weeks at a time as an inpatient. He has been expertly cared for as if he was their own pet, by all the vets and nurses and does not appear to be stressed whilst in there. One year when it was his birthday, one of the nurses even sang Happy Birthday to him!"
