Cardiology and
Interventional Cardiology

Our Specialist-led cardiology team is highly experienced in the management of complex cardiac conditions in cats and dogs. We’re proud to be one of the few small animal referral centres in the UK that offers interventional cardiology procedures.

Equipped to handle the most complex conditions

Southfields Veterinary Specialists has dedicated cardiology facilities and equipment on our premises, including advanced diagnostic imaging. This means we are able to perform the most complex veterinary cardiology procedures.

The field of veterinary cardiology includes diverse conditions relating to the heart and circulation. Interventional cardiology offers minimally invasive procedures to correct heart defects by the use of intravascular catheters. It can be used for procedures including correcting valve defects, holes in the heart, and placing pacemakers.

We also offer cardiac screening services and are listed as an Official Screener by the Veterinary Cardiovascular Society, and by PawPeds as a screener for cats.

Caring together

Our veterinary cardiologists work closely with other specialists across our 14 disciplines, especially our Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine, Oncology and Soft Tissue Surgery teams. Dedicated veterinary nurses, experienced in the intensive nursing that cardiac patients need, ensure we provide outstanding levels of care to every pet referred to us.

We are happy to offer advice to vets on the management of cardiac and respiratory cases. Our team can also help with the interpretation of ECGs and radiographs, with no obligation for onward referrals. We aim to see urgent patients the same day whenever required.
