Sustainability
at Southfields

We believe that every business should do what it can to make a positive contribution to the global fight against climate change. Everyone at Southfields is serious about transforming the way we work. We evaluate every opportunity to cut waste, save energy and dramatically reduce our environmental impact.

In a committed and coordinated drive to reduce our carbon footprint across every aspect of what we do at Southfields, we’ve introduced a wide programme of practical energy-saving and environmental measures, spearheaded by our own ‘Green Group’ of team members.
As part of the Linnaeus Group, we’re also supporting the Linnaeus-wide ‘Paws to turn off’ campaign, which encourages practices to turn off unnecessary lights and air conditioning, aiming to reduce annual electricity consumption by 14%.

Changing our culture, behaviours, and working practices

We now use low-flow anaesthesia for all procedures — using fewer anaesthetic agents than conventional systems, emitting less gas into the atmosphere, and improving the flow dynamics of the inhaled air —we’ve installed pollinator-friendly planters outside the hospital, with ‘bee baths’ within them, and installed bike racks to encourage staff cycle to work instead. We also sponsor the Essex Wildlife Trust, committed to protecting wildlife and promoting respect and care for nature.

Meet the Green Group

Our Green Group is made up of volunteers from across our multi-disciplinary teams – Specialists, Nurses, technicians, operations and support teams – sharing one goal: to transform the way we work at Southfields to cut waste, save energy and dramatically reduce our environmental impact.

“We are all very serious about acting decisively and effectively to transform the way we work at Southfields to cut waste, save energy and dramatically reduce our environmental impact.”

Sana Chaudhry, Green Group leader
